HKU Dual Purpose System

HKU Dual Purpose System

Introduction

HKU Dual-Purpose System is composed of ports, holders, connectors and seals, a PVC piezometric pipe, and covers. Among these, connectors and seals, the PVC piezometric pipe, and covers are universal modules, while the inlet ports and holders can be customized according to requirements. By adopting advanced techniques such as 3D printing technology and universal seals, this system offers advantages like low manufacturing cost, flexible customization, and wide applicability.

Advantages

1. The HKU-MDMSS boasts a low-cost advantage, as most of the materials used in the system can be purchased from local hardware stores. However, ports and holders need to be custom-made by technicians.

2. The HKU-MDMSS can be operated and installed by 2 to 3 people, making the installation process convenient and efficient.

3. The HKU-MDMSS is capable of high-frequency, high-resolution sampling, offering high spatial and temporal resolution.

4. The HKU-MDMSS is suitable for a wide range of application scenarios.

Installing Procedure in the Field

Before installation, both parties should closely communicate regarding relevant considerations, primarily:

1. The user should first investigate the dimensions of commonly used PVC pipes and construction well casing sizes in the local market of the installation site. Then, based on site information and research objectives, determine the depth of the monitoring well and the number of monitoring depths.

2. The HKU Hydrogeology Research Group will customize ports and holders according to specific requirements, test the relevant components, and deliver them to the user after verification.

Upon arrival at the construction site, the team should first assess the site conditions, verify the preparation of all materials, and discuss the installation plan for the multi-depth groundwater monitoring well.

Drilling operations and the assembly of the multi-depth groundwater monitoring system can be carried out simultaneously. The assembly steps are as follows:

1. Catalog the ports and holders to facilitate subsequent assembly.

2. Assemble the PVC piezometer tubes with the holders. The PVC piezometer tubes should be laid flat on the ground for ease of assembly.

3. Assemble the outer PVC casing with the fixed PVC piezometer tubes, and adjust the length of the PVC pipes as needed.

4. Connect the PVC pipes to ports and secure them with screws.

5. Install connectors and seals at appropriate positions before and after ports, and arrange them in sequence.

After the well construction is completed, use drilling equipment (or manually) to lower the assembled monitoring system vertically into the ground in the specified order. Secure all connection points with screws. The installation requires close coordination between 2–3 personnel.
